Herpes Simplex Cure
The highly contagious and painful herpes simplex virus is one
of the oldest viruses known to affect humans. Before the discovery
of HIV, it was the most frightening STD out there. So what do
you do if you find out you have the herpes virus?
Is There A Herpes Simplex Cure?
There is no actual cure for herpes and people who get it will
have it there whole lives. There are many treatments available
though, including alternative medicine and natural methods.
Zinc is thought to prevent or lessen the amount of reoccurrences
of herpes outbreaks. Other vitamins and nutrients are thought
to be helpful in the treatment of herpes.
The Use of Pills and Creams
The most common treatments are prescription pills and medications
such as Acyclovir. Acyclovir, known by the brand
name Zovirax, is an antiviral medication used
to reduce the severity of outbreaks and to try to prevent new
blisters from forming. Acyclovir comes in cream form, pill and
liquid form and for very severe cases, injectable form. Sores
from herpes usually disappear within a few days of starting treatment.
Acyclovir can have side effects such as headache and nausea.
Valacyclovir, or Valtrex, is
another antiviral treatment used for herpes. Just like Acyclovir,
Valtrex is not a cure. It does tend to help reduce the severity
of sores and helps outbreaks from coming back. Valtrex is taken
in pill form when the first signs of an outbreak occur and works
best when taken within the first 2-3 days of contracting the virus.
Valtrex may also bring on the following side effects; headache,
nausea, dizziness and vomiting.
Penciclovir, known by its brand name Denavir,
is another treatment option usually used with herpes simplex one,
cold sores on the mouth. Denavir is a cream that should be applied
every 2 hours or so beginning at the first sign of a cold sore.
Denavir should be used only on the lips and face and while it
is not a cure, it can speed the healing process and reduce discomfort
of painful cold sores. You should avoid contact with the eyes.
Possible side effects are headache and irritation at the site
of application.
Even though there is no current cure for herpes, these treatments
can help you keep your herpes in control and make you more comfortable
when an outbreak does occur.
